If you want to get the lay of the land, check out our guide on Forever Skies's map and locations. We also have guides if you're in need of more food and water, two resources you'll need lots of during your time in the overgrown post apocalypse.

There are a few ways to gather materials in Forever Skies. Some, like Dirty Water and Energy Crystals, can just be gathered directly by hand. Others will need the use of an Extractor. You'll gain access to a Deck Extractor early on, letting you gather the various resources floating around or on each of the ruined locations you can visit. After visiting the Underdust for the first time, you'll also be able to craft a portable Extractor, which lets you gather things like Metal and Glass while away from your ship. The other main way of gathering resources is via the Knife, which can be researched once you scan Thick Creepers (vines found in some locations) for the first time.

Once scanned, many resources can also be crafted via the Fabricator on your ship. However, this often requires a lot of other basic resources, so it's generally best to gather them directly instead.

Biomass is gathered from Thick Creepers, the long vines that can be found growing in certain locations above and below the dust. Gathering it requires the Knife, which can be crafted once you scan Thick Creepers for the first time. There are a number of locations that have an abundance of Biomass, including Overgrown Towers, Greenhouse Towers, and the Underdust.

Biomass is mainly used to create Biomass Fuel, a medium efficiency fuel for your ship.

Circuit boards are found inside ruined PCs at certain 2-Light locations. Check inside buildings at Standard Wind Farms and Rooftops.

They're needed for numerous tools on the ship, including the Location Radar and Tool Charger.

Coffee Nuts can only be gathered in Greenhouse Towers.

Copper comes in large spools of wire that must be gathered via an Extractor. It can be found in all 2-light locations, including Rooftops and Standard Wind Farms.

Copper is used to Fabricate items, including Rainwater Collectors and the Tool Charger.

Crystal Batteries are scattered across the Underdust. They can also be crafted at a Fabricator, requiring Energy Crystals and Plastic Scrap.

Crystal Batteries primarily power Oxygen Refill Stations in the Underdust, though they're also used for tools like the Upgraded Tool Charger.

Dirty Water is found in Rainwater Collectors, and can be drunk directly or bottled. Rainwater Collectors can be crafted and placed on your ship, or found at locations you visit.

Dirty Water is turned into regular Water, allowing you to reduce your thirst or craft Biomass Fuel.

Dust Daisy can only be found in the Underdust, gathered from the red plants with glowing centers.

Dust Daisies are used to research the Vertigo Virus, which is used to create Hypothermia Boosters.

Dust Lettuce is gathered via Insect Lures on your ship.

Dust Lettuce can be cooked to restore food and health.

Electrical Elements can be found inside buildings at 1-light locations, including Temporary Camps.

Electric Elements are used for many Fabricated items.

Energy Crystals are found only in the Underdust. Most of the time, they can be found in large clusters.

They're used to make extra Crystal Batteries, along with high efficiency Energy Crystal Fuel.

Epoxy is primarily found in Greenhouse Towers.

Epoxy is used for crafting interior ship items like Storage Containers.

Glass must be gathered via an Extractor. It's found on buildings in all above-dust locations, made up of small hexagonal panels.

Glass is needed for a handful of items, including the Location Radar and Note Stickers.

Canisters of Helium are found at certain 2-light locations, including Crash Sites and Rooftops.

It's primarily needed for Helium Fuel, which is more efficient than the Synthetic Fuel you can make early on.

Inkbulbs are gathered in Greenhouse Towers. You can usually find multiple in the same area.

Inkbulbs can be used as food, or to craft paint for your ship.

Lobster Chili can be gathered in a few locations, including Small Towns and Overgrown Towers.

Lobster Chili can be boiled and eaten. Doing this will also cure the Photophobia virus.

Machine Parts can be found on the ground and in containers scattered across 1 and 2-light locations.

Machine Parts are needed frequently for fabricated items, including the Scanner and Deck Extractors.

Mantis Glands can currently only be found from a dead Mantis corpse in the Underdust.

Mantis Glands are used to research the Fever virus.

Metals can be gathered from all locations, by extracting the large metal panels found on buildings or the ground. It is also found floating throughout the air.

Metals are used constantly when fabricating items, so it's always recommended to gather as much as possible.

Motherboards can only be fabricated, requiring 3 Circuit Boards, 10 Copper, and 5 Plastic Scrap once researched.

Motherboards are used for certain tools and virus research.

Patat can only be gathered in Greenhouse Towers.

Petit Astre can only be gathered in Greenhouse Towers.

Making cartridges for the Paint Tool.

Plant Oil can be bottled up from barrels at Greenhouse Towers.

Plant Oil can be used to fabricate Polymer.

Plant Resin can be bottled up in the Underdust Tunnels.

Plastic Scrap is primarily gathered at trash piles in 1-star locations, including Communication Points and Small Towns. Some can be found scattered throughout the Underdust as well. If you have an abundance of synthetics, it can also be crafted with 30 of those once researched.

Plastic Scrap is needed for useful items like the Knife.

Polymer is found in Greenhouse Towers, and also scattered throughout the Underdust.

Polymer is primarily needed to craft both the Crossbow and the portable Extractor.

A single Solid State Battery can be found in every location, generally at the highest point inside an electrical box.

Tools like the Research Station require Solid State Batteries to function.

Synthetics are a very common resource floating throughout the sky, gathered via your Extractor. It can also be extracted from small yellow Synthetic Cases.

Early on, you'll need a lot of Synthetics to make Synthetics Fuel. It's also used in many fabricated items.

Transformers can be fabricated on your ship using Electrical Elements and Machine Parts. They're also sometimes found directly in the Underdust.

Transformers are needed for tools like Deck Extractors and the Airship Builder.
